2026 Updates

Nenana Municipal Airport Project Update

We’re excited to announce that airfield lighting and signage construction will soon begin at the Nenana Municipal Airport. This initiative, made possible through grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will improve visibility and enhance safety for pilots and passengers using our local airport.

Construction Notes:

•    All schedule dates are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.  

•    To be included on the distribution list for future construction updates, please email info@portofnenana.gov and put "ATTN: Weekly Email Update" in Subject line of your email.

•    Check current Nenana NOTAMs to get up-to-date information on closures. 

•    Use CTAF (122.1) to contact contractor staff on site. 

 

Current Construction Area: 

Phase 1C was completed the morning of Friday, August 21st.

Upcoming Construction:

Week of August 23, 2026, to August 29, 2026 – Upcoming Week

 

Phase 2A – Taxiway A and South side of Apron

Scheduled – Monday August 24, 2026, to approximately Saturday, September 29th

 

Description of Work to be performed:

 

  • Replace: Taxiway/apron edge lights, including associated cable and conduit

  • Replace Segmented Circle 

 

  • TWY A closed

  • South side of Apron Closed

  • Segmented Circle unavailable (August 25th though September 3rd)

  • Fuel will remain available 

  • Use caution and avoid construction areas enclosed with low level barricades

 

Week of August 30, 2026, to September 5, 2026 – Second Week Look Ahead

 

Phase 2B – Taxiway B and North Side of Apron

Scheduled – Saturday August 29th to Wednesday September 2nd  

 

Description of Work to be performed:

 

  • Replace: Taxiway/apron edge lights, including associated cable and conduit 

  • Replace Segmented Circle 

 

  • TWY B Closed

  • North side of Apron Closed

  • Segmented Circle unavailable (August 25th though September 3rd)

  • Fuel/Pilot Lounge will remain available 

  • Access to hangars will be maintained 

  • Use caution and avoid construction areas enclosed with low level barricades

 

​Future Activity – Schedule Subject to Change

Phase 3 – Runway 4R/22L Closed

Scheduled – September 4 to September 12  

 

August through October 2026

Construction is planned from early August to late October 2026. Work will begin August 3, 2026. The project involves:

  • Replacing edge and threshold lighting and signage for Runway 4L/22R and Runway 4R/22L

  • Replacing edge lighting and signage for Taxiways A, B, and C

  • Replacing visual aids including segmented circle, primary wind cone, and airport beacon

  • Replacing the supplemental wind cone and apron flood lighting

  • Runway designation remarking

  • Constructing an electrical equipment building

  • Obstruction removal

 

Planned Runway Closures

Runway closures will occur between August 3 and September 24.
