Nenana Municipal Airport Project Update

We’re excited to announce that airfield lighting and signage construction will soon begin at the Nenana Municipal Airport. This initiative, made possible through grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will improve visibility and enhance safety for pilots and passengers using our local airport.

Construction Notes:

•    All schedule dates are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.  

•    To be included on the distribution list for future construction updates, please email info@portofnenana.gov and put "ATTN: Weekly Email Update" in Subject line of your email.

•   Check current Nenana NOTAMs to get up-to-date information on closures. 

•    Use CTAF (122.1) to contact contractor staff on site.

•    Runway 5R/23L is closed due to ruts and soft conditions.

•    Nenana's flight procedures will remain published as 4/22 until the first publication cycle after the FAA         performs a flight check, which is currently scheduled for next May.  The official change from 4/22 to           5/23 is planned for 9/30/27. 

•    Light fixtures are being installed but not connected to power. 

• Contractor is awaiting delivery of constant current regulators, which is scheduled for delivery in mid-November. Permanent lighting is expected to be operational by the first week of December. 

• Once power is connected to the Electrical Equipment Building, Contractor will install old constant current regulators to provide temporary lighting. If the old constant current regulators are operational, temporary lighting could be available by November 3rd.

Current Construction:

Week of October 11th, 2026, to October 17th, 2026 

 

Install equipment and make connections in the new Electrical Equipment Building (EEB). This building is off all movement areas and will not affect Nenana aircraft traffic.

Current phase of brush removal is expected to be complete by the end of the week.

• Runway 5L/23R Open.

• Runway 5R/23L Closed due to rutting and soft surface.

• Taxiway A, B and C Open.

• Apron Open.

• Use caution for personnel and equipment working around taxiways and the apron.

Remaining Construction:

​

The following items are anticipated to be completed this construction season. ​

​

Continue with equipment installation and connections in the EEB. 

•    Connect EEB to Power.

•    Install “old” constant current regulators (CCRs) (Lights operational by November 3rd).

•    Replace "old" CCRs with new CCRs once equipment arrives on site. Permanent lighting operational by the first week of December. 

​

Hydroseed on 5R/23L expected week of October 26th.

​

• Runway 5L/23R Open.

• Runway 5R/23L Closed due to rutting and soft surface.

• Taxiway A, B, and C Open.

• Apron Open.

• Use caution for personnel and equipment working around taxiways and the apron.
