2026 Updates
Nenana Municipal Airport Project Update
We’re excited to announce that airfield lighting and signage construction will soon begin at the Nenana Municipal Airport. This initiative, made possible through grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will improve visibility and enhance safety for pilots and passengers using our local airport.

• All schedule dates are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Current Construction Area:
Week of August 30, 2026, to September 5, 2026 – Upcoming Week
Phase 2B – Taxiway B and Apron northeast of Taxiway B
Scheduled – Saturday August 29th to Saturday September 5th
Description of Work to be performed:

Replace: Taxiway/apron edge lights, including associated cable and conduit

Replace Segmented Circle
-
Preparing for sign base installation August 31st. Work will be performed with a 15-minute Prior Permission Required (PPR) on Runway 5R/23L.

Concrete pour of all sign bases. Work will be performed with a 15-minute PPR on Runway 5R/23L.

TWY A closed
-
Periodic temporary closure of 5R/23L with 15-minute PPR
-
Apron closed to the Northeast of TWY B

Recommend all aircraft owners with aircraft parked in closed portion of apron to move aircraft for construction. Airport will provide notification if your aircraft needs to be relocated. Contractor will work around any remaining aircraft.

Fuel will remain available

Access to hangars will be maintained

Use caution and avoid construction areas enclosed with low level barricades.

These are the remainder of anticipated runway closures anticipated this construction season:

Runway 5L/23R Closed September 14th through 18th

Runway 5R/23L Closed September 22nd through 24th

Construction is planned from early August to late October 2026. Work will begin August 3, 2026. The project involves:

Replacing edge and threshold lighting and signage for Runway 4L/22R and Runway 4R/22L

Replacing edge lighting and signage for Taxiways A, B, and C
-
Replacing visual aids including segmented circle, primary wind cone, and airport beacon
-
Replacing the supplemental wind cone and apron flood lighting

Runway designation remarking

Constructing an electrical equipment building

Obstruction removal
